LUXE ORIENTA New Chinese Outfit | I Finally Understand the Charm of Ancient Lustrous Brocade

LUXE ORIENTA New Chinese Outfit

New Chinese style has gained huge popularity in recent years. As a Chinese living overseas, I’m thrilled to witness the global rise of traditional Chinese culture. I have always loved authentic traditional costumes, yet modern new Chinese pieces perfectly blend
heritage and contemporary aesthetics, making oriental elegance easy to wear in daily life.

LUXE ORIENTA is a high-end brand specializing in modern new Chinese fashion. It runs multiple physical stores in China and serves customers worldwide. The brand selects premium fabrics like silk and Xiangyunsha, inherits the essence of traditional costumes and reinterprets them with modern tailoring. Following its core concept Oriental Luxury, East Meets West, it presents exquisite new Chinese styles to the world.

I am a big fan of Ming-style costumes, which feature a poised, restrained and graceful silhouette paired with superb craftsmanship. For this review, I picked two pieces from LUXE ORIENTA: a modified Ming-style Xiangyunsha mamian skirt and an asymmetrical-collar top made of lustrous brocade.

Unboxing Experience

I was immediately impressed by the packaging — elegant, luxurious and minimalist. Inside the pale purple printed gift box lies a sheer silk drawstring bag that shimmers under sunlight. Classic Chinese frog buttons decorate the opening, reflecting meticulous attention to every detail.

Pink Asymmetrical-Collar Lustrous Brocade Top (Mulberry Silk)

This stunning lustrous brocade fully explains why ancient people adored such fabrics. Made of 90% mulberry silk with gold thread jacquard, it shines with gorgeous pink and golden hues from every angle in the sun.

The asymmetrical collar and frog buttons highlight classic Chinese aesthetics. It pairs wonderfully with mamian skirts or lantern pants, and also works beautifully as a casual traditional-style cardigan. Asymmetrical and cross-collar tops are ideal outer layers, and I highly recommend this everyday styling.

The fabric is textured, soft and incredibly smooth to the touch. Generous cuts on the cuffs and back make it flattering for all body types. Loose silhouettes are typical of Ming-style clothing, but I found size M still too big for me. I suggest sizing down for a better fit.

Floral Embroidered Xiangyunsha Mamian Skirt (100% Mulberry Silk)

Floral Embroidered Xiangyunsha Mamian Skirt

Crafted from pure mulberry silk Xiangyunsha, this skirt features great drape and soft texture with a subtle elegant sheen. The fabric has a moderate thickness that prevents sheerness, while remaining highly breathable and comfortable even in summer.

The deep black base is adorned with delicate understated floral jacquards that add rich layers. Elaborate hand embroidery covers the skirt face and every pleat, delivering a luxurious look. Its unique color combination — brown on the front panel and green along the pleats — makes the design stand out.

This is a modified one-piece mamian skirt, different from traditional multi-piece styles. It is much easier to put on and requires no underdress.

Overall, this is a gorgeous skirt with timeless charm. That said, there are a few drawbacks, and I believe the brand still needs to polish its adherence to traditional costume structures.
a gorgeous skirt with timeless charm

First, the skirt length is shorter than stated on the size chart. I chose size L fearing an insufficient length, but mistakenly received size M, which made the issue worse. Most of my mamian skirts are 105cm long and reach my ankles. Other wearers of similar height also reported that size L still fails to hit the ankles. A proper length is essential to bring out the full charm of a mamian skirt; a shorter cut loses much of its classic appeal.

Second, all side pleats fold forward. Traditional mamian skirts adopt an alternating fold style: front pleats fold back while rear pleats fold forward. Uniform forward pleats are less figure-friendly and tend to split out easily at the sides.

Third, the fabric is relatively soft, so the pleats lack firmness. Crisp, well-set pleats are key to maintaining the skirt’s elegant shape.

Additionally, the product images on the official website look overly artificial and AI-generated. More real-life photos of models would be much better.

This set features bolder colors and a edgier vibe compared to my other traditional outfits. I styled it with a high ponytail for a fresh new look. From premium materials to fine details, LUXE ORIENTA delivers high-quality pieces that fit seamlessly into modern daily wear.
