Wearing Hanfu and new Chinese-style outfits from LUXE ORIENTA feels like stepping back in time. This stunning set features a lustrous brocade top paired with a hand-embroidered mamian skirt.
I’m thrilled to be a product tester for Yalanji, a high-end contemporary Chinese fashion brand based in my hometown Nanjing.
I’ve created animated clips with background music to let you truly appreciate the fabric and texture. Check out slides 4, 5 and 6. If the animations or audio fail to load, simply swipe back and forth a few times or long-press the images to play. These clips showcase the outfits on me and how the fabric shimmers under natural sunlight.
Twenty-eight years ago for my wedding, I splashed over 3,000 RMB on a cheongsam from a renowned local designer in Nanjing. I still keep it carefully preserved in my wardrobe today. To me, traditional Chinese attire is always a timeless pick for important occasions — it never fails to turn heads. From my wedding day to my kids’ kindergarten and high school graduations, I’ve worn cheongsams for every milestone. I’ve always loved traditional Chinese clothing.
Now, new Chinese style has gone far beyond cheongsams. Tang suits, Hanfu and modern reinterpretations of traditional designs are wildly popular across the country. This trend is not only a showcase of Chinese culture, but also a wonderful way to carry on our heritage.
LUXE ORIENTA is a premium brand focusing on modern new Chinese fashion. Founded in 2015 and derived from the famous Nanjing fashion house Yalanji, it was created by Leah Zhang, who has rich experience working with international luxury brands. The brand officially launched globally in 2024. Adhering to the core philosophy of Oriental Luxury, East Meets West, it blends Shanghai charm and traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern tailoring and high-fashion design.
My mom told me the brand has a physical store on Xinjiekou in Nanjing. I definitely plan to visit and shop there when I return to China, as this testing experience has been absolutely amazing!
Below I’ll share my full review covering packaging, craftsmanship, fabric and overall wearing experience.
Packaging
You can view the unboxing clip in slide 4. The packaging is absolutely impressive and full of ceremonial charm.
It comes in a sturdy elegant purple gift box. Inside, each piece is individually packed in sheer organza bags decorated with traditional Chinese frog buttons. The exquisite details make these pieces perfect for personal wear or as thoughtful, tasteful gifts.
Pink Silk Brocade Blouse with Gold Thread Embroidery
This elegant
pink brocade blouse is crafted for women who appreciate traditional craftsmanship and modern Chinese grace.
Made of 90% mulberry silk blended with 10% gold thread, the fabric boasts a soft sheen and delicate texture. It features a traditional asymmetrical collar and classic Chinese frog buttons, paired with a modern streamlined silhouette.
Sizing
I am 160cm tall with a 34DD bust. I picked size L, yet size M would have fit me better. The larger size makes the hem a bit long for my height. Still, the relaxed fit works well thanks to its drop shoulder design and three-quarter sleeves.
Wearing Experience
I fell in love with this top the moment I unboxed it. The silk-gold thread fabric glimmers beautifully in sunlight, delivering a luxurious look far more refined than sequins. It’s incredibly lightweight and breathable, ideal for summer wear despite the three-quarter sleeves. The fabric is slightly sheer, so you can wear a camisole underneath, or style it with a nice bra for a chic sheer look.
Every frog button is hand-stitched, matched with subtle metallic fasteners for understated luxury.
Styling Tips
Besides pairing it with a mamian skirt, this blouse also goes wonderfully with black or white wide-leg pants. It creates a sophisticated modern Chinese look with both flats and heels.
Black Xiangyunsha Mamian Skirt with Floral Embroidery
I used to only buy cheongsams during my trips back to China and had never tried a
mamian skirt before. I was eager to give one a go, so I was over the moon when I got selected for this review.
Sizing
I followed the brand’s size guide carefully. Size M fits a 76cm waist. My waist measures 72–74cm after gaining a little weight recently. Since size S is for a 72cm waist and the brand suggests sizing up if you fall between two sizes, I chose M.
The fit is perfect. This skirt has no zippers or buttons and is secured only with a waist tie. A too-tight fit will ruin the drape and alignment, so sizing up is always recommended. At 102cm in length, it suits my 160cm frame perfectly with both flat and mid-heel shoes.
Crafted from 100% premium pure mulberry silk using time-honored Xiangyunsha dyeing techniques, this fabric is known as "soft gold of textiles". The traditional plant-based dyeing process gives the material a unique matte glow, outstanding air permeability and superior drape. It softens and ages beautifully with wear.
-
Fine jacquard patterns: The deep black base is adorned with subtle floral jacquards, adding layered luxury from every angle, a signature of high-end Xiangyunsha craftsmanship.
-
Eco-friendly & timeless: Hand-dyed with natural plant pigments, each skirt develops a unique patina over time. Pure silk is gentle on sensitive skin and offers natural UV protection.
-
Heirloom quality: Xiangyunsha is renowned for its durability, designed to be passed down through generations.
-
Exquisite hand embroidery: Floral and butterfly motifs are classic Chinese symbols representing prosperity, longevity, joy and freedom.
- Classic mamian silhouette with modern refined tailoring.

Wearing Experience
Though the skirt looks long, it stays cool and comfortable all day long with an elegant natural drape. The full hand embroidery is exquisitely detailed, and the faint woven patterns on the base fabric add subtle sophistication. The Xiangyunsha material will only grow more charming after washes.
Styling Tips
The full matching set delivers an authentic ancient Chinese aesthetic. My young son even said I looked like a beauty from old times! For daily wear, you can pair this skirt with plain white or black tops. It also layers beautifully with sweaters and coats in winter.
Final Thoughts
A huge thank you to
LUXE ORIENTA and the platform for this testing opportunity. I’m totally obsessed with this brand and can’t wait to visit their physical store in Nanjing.
The mamian skirt is priced at over $900, and the silk blouse over $500. Every penny is well-spent for the top-tier fabric, meticulous craftsmanship and timeless design. The pieces feel incredibly comfortable against the skin.
By the way, a 20% off online coupon is included in the package, plus new customers can enjoy an extra 15% discount on their first purchase!
